NameVerdict
Is your product name actually clear? Six parallel signals — synthesized into a GREEN, YELLOW, or RED verdict you can act on.
Overview
Picking a brand name is one of the few founder decisions you can't cheaply reverse. Domain searches and a quick trademark lookup feel like due diligence — until six months in you discover the federal trademark is held in your class, the social handles are taken, or the top Google result is a competing product.
NameVerdict runs the full clearance gauntlet in parallel and hands you a verdict per name with the evidence cited inline. Designed for founders to rule out shortlists before paying an attorney for a knock-out search on a single candidate.
The Six Lanes
- ▪Lane 1 — Domains
Live registry checks against .com, .io, .app, .dev, .ai. Tells you which TLDs are actually free, not just whether the .com is taken.
- ▪Lane 2 — USPTO trademarks
Federal trademark search via USPTO TESS, scoped to your product's Nice class. Flags live registrations and recent applications by serial number.
- ▪Lane 3 — Common-law collisions
Where real products live: GitHub, iTunes, Reddit, Product Hunt, Crunchbase, Etsy. Surfaces the unregistered uses that block enforcement later.
- ▪Lane 4 — Google SERP
First-page Google results for the bare candidate name. Reveals competing products that will own the brand search forever.
- ▪Lane 5 — Category overlap
Semantic category collisions — products that aren't word-identical but compete for the same buyer attention.
- ▪Lane 6 — Social handles
Live availability check on X, Instagram, GitHub, and TikTok. The handles you'll need from day one.
Features
- § 01Six lanes in parallel
All six signals run concurrently per name. Typical report time: under a minute per name. A 5-name shortlist comes back in 60–90 seconds.
- § 02GREEN / YELLOW / RED verdict
Synthesized aggregate verdict per name, with the underlying evidence cited inline so you can audit every call.
- § 03Nice-class-aware
USPTO scope is filtered to your product's Nice class (software is 9, SaaS is 42). Pick the closest match or let the agent infer from a one-sentence product description.
- § 04Cited evidence, not vibes
Every lane's reasoning shows the actual URLs, USPTO serial numbers, GitHub repos, and SERP snippets that drove the verdict — not opaque scores.
- § 05Email when the report is ready
Hand off a checkout, walk away, get the report URL when the agent finishes. No sitting and watching a spinner.
- § 06Sample report, no signup
Browse a real generated report end-to-end before you pay. See exactly what the deliverable looks like.
Frequently asked questions
A domain search tells you whether one URL is available. It doesn't tell you whether someone owns the federal trademark, whether there's a Reddit thread roasting that name in your category, whether the social handles are taken, or whether the first Google result is a competing product. Domain availability is one of six lanes — and it's usually not the lane that bites a founder six months in.
No. NameVerdict is an automated screening tool — it surfaces real registry, USPTO, and web evidence so you can rule names out cheaply and quickly. Before adopting a name commercially, especially on YELLOW or RED verdicts, you should still consult a registered trademark attorney for a full knock-out search and freedom-to-operate opinion. The point of NameVerdict is to get to that conversation with one or two viable candidates instead of paying for thorough TM searches on a shortlist of five.
Typically under a minute per name. All six lanes run in parallel and the report URL is emailed to you when the agent finishes the synthesis pass. A 5-name report usually returns in 60–90 seconds total.
Trademarks are filed under Nice classes — a 45-category international system for what a product is. Software is class 9, SaaS is class 42, restaurants are class 43. Two products with the same name can both hold trademarks if they're in different classes, so scoping the USPTO search to your class matters. Pick the closest match in the form, or leave it on "Infer from product description" and the agent will guess from a one-sentence description.
Full refunds are available before you view the report — once you load the report URL, the purchase is final. If something material is wrong with the report itself, email hello@nameverdict.com and we'll handle it case by case.
